What To Expect
1
Hellbender Brewing Company
These breweries are sample itineraries only. All schedules are subject to change. This handsomely-helmed DC brewery got its name from the Eastern Hellbender Salamander, which is the largest salamander in North America, and the third largest in the world! So, it’s safe to say that their beers boast BIG flavors. But they don’t just brew killer ales, they do it in an environmentally sound, super-efficient way using their hammer mill and mash filter to protect the earth from harsh effects and you from bad beer. Unlike any brewery on the east coast, Hellbender Brewing is able to use less grain and less water for all of its brews but brings you more flavor than you can even imagine. Let us take you on a behind the scenes tour of this brewery’s unique process and walk you through the science of why less really is more.
2
Port City Brewing Company
Tucked at the western most tip of Washington, DC, Port City Brewing Company is Northern Virginia’s most notable brewery. We know what you’re thinking… Virginia?! I thought this was a DC Brew Tour. And you’re right, but you may not know that Alexandria, VA is only a stone’s (bottlecap’s?) throw away from DC, and they’re churning out some of the most incredible craft brews that we just had to feature them on the tour. And to show us some love for including them, they’ve generously offered our tour-goers special samples and beers that are exclusive to the brewery and pack such a malty pinch, you may even forget you’re on planet earth. In fact, their beer is so good it earned them Best Small Brewery in America in 2016.
3
Right Proper Brewing Company
Right Proper Brewing Company started as a vision that centered around DC as a hometown, with each neighborhood defined by a different culture. A vision of heading to your local pub to grab a fresh glass of beer that was brewed on premise. A vision that would be defined by the yeasts used to ferment the beer, as opposed to the hops used to bitter it.

We went on the 1st ever After Hours Brew Tour with Chad and Luke, Sept 12th. We did the Boston tour with Chad a while back (which is also a great tour) so was very excited to hear that the new DC tours were going to be offered. The tour included Atlas, Barto, Port City and Capital City. Each stop provided a great selection of samples, insight into the operations and time to enjoy additional tastings. A delicious food/beer pairing was offered at Capital City. Chad’s beer/history narration and the sights along the way make for a great tour and a MUST do when in DC. Will definitely tour again with DC Brew Tours!!

We previously took a tour with Luke and Chad up in Boston and enjoyed it so much that we jumped at the chance to do it in our hometown! Chad has just started up a DC version and we were the second group to go out with them. They have a great thing going on. We hit Port City, Cap City (for lunch), Chocolate City, and DC Brau. We met at 11am (easy location near metro center stop), and returned there by 4pm. Chad drove (9 of us total), shared DC beer history and had knowledge of the breweries visited. At each of the breweries, we had personal tours, extra time for tastings, and great company too! What more could you ask for? Lunch at Cap City had beer pairings to go with our chicken sandwich, fries with aioli sauce, curry hummus with pita and a salad. You could also ask for vegetarian options. Looking forward to our next adventure with them!

The bro and I went on a tour this past weekend and it was worth every nickel! What beer lover wouldn't enjoy getting to enjoy a variety of DC brews while getting driven around by a super cool DD who is both knowledgable and funny and home brews? I've really wanted to get into homebrewing and Luke gave me some awesome insight on how I can get started. I had high expectations given I had an awesome time last year on their Boston Brew Tour. I was not disappointed! Our tour included stops at Atlas, Chocolate City, DC Brau and a great lunch at Capital City Taphouse. Not gonna reveal too much more. As not to spoil a tour for anyone. But if you're and adult looking for something other than the typical touristy monuments tour this is highly recommended!
