Overview

Once docked at the Sitka port, you won't have to go far to see this area's abundant natural beauty and wildlife! This 3-hour shore excursion starts right at the cruise port dock and includes a sightseeing cruise and then a 1.5-hour kayak tour through the magnificent waters of the Sitka Sound, part of the Gulf of Alaska. During your tour, spot some of the wildlife that Sitka is known for, including bald eagles and harbor seals. From the water, you may even see black-tailed deer and brown bears!

What To Expect

Sitka

Embark on a memorable adventure when you climb aboard our motorized, custom-built inflatable vessel for an exciting sightseeing tour en route to our floating base camp. Your knowledgeable captain will scan the sea for wildlife, including whales, and identify points of interest along the way.

Sitka

At our floating base camp, you'll receive instruction on the safe use of ocean-going, two-person kayaks. These stable yet maneuverable crafts let you enjoy the beauty of the protected bays and inlets near Sitka from a serene, natural perspective. An experienced guide, well versed in paddling techniques and the marine environment of the area, will lead groups of up to six kayaks. Each of the waterways traveled holds unique attractions, whether colorful intertidal invertebrates, an eagle swooping from the treetops, or the grandeur of the lush rainforest. You may even see a brown bear, harbor seals, or a Sitka black-tailed deer.

I had the opportunity to do this activity with my family last week. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. We were met by Taylor at the cruise ship who greeted us on a shuttle that took us to the excursion meeting area at the dock. At that point we met Connor who provided sea transport to the house boat where the kayaks are set up. He was great ! At one point while in the transport boat he spotted a whale and allowed us to observe the whale for a few minutes before going to the house boat with the kayaks. Once we arrived we were paired up with Oliver, who was also fantastic. He took us on a kayaking tour in a very calm waters in Sitka. It was amazing ! He was extremely knowledgeable about the sea life, plant and trees etc, I truly appreciated his love for the beautiful area that surrounded us . After an hour and a half tour we returned to the house boat where we were served coffee tea, cheese bread and clam chowder . I highly recommend this activity , it’s a chance to connect with the beauty of Alaska. I cannot say enough about the staff! They were all knowledgable and really wanted the clients to have a memorable experience

It was a relaxing trip, wearing all the gear was entertaining in itself. The team is very knowledgeable and fun! The snacks at the end were a nice warm touch and we appreciate the hospitality. Thank you!

We stayed in a small secluded bay and never saw much except for trees. For the money do something else.
