We lucked out with the weather in Sitka- 55 degrees and just a little misty! The water was super calm in the bay and you don't travel too far away from the boat house, which made for a really casual and relaxed paddle. We didn't see too much wildlife aside from eagles, sea stars, and the occasional jumping fish, but the guides were extremely knowledgeable and had a lot of stories about the history, flora, and fauna of the area (which was nice, as I found I did a lot of looking in Alaska, but not a lot of listening and learning :)). The guides were funny, friendly, and apparently incredible cooks- the highlight of the trip (which is not to discount the kayaking, I'm just saying it was THAT GOOD) was the home made clam chowder served out of a wood fire stove in the boat house at the end of the excursion. Can that stuff and sell it!! Thanks for a great excursion in Sitka :)

We had a wonderful time! IEven decked out in ridiculous-looking raingear (which was actually quite functional and kept us warm during the boat ride to the kayaks), the paddling was relaxing and easier than we thought it was going to be. Our guide was highly entertaining, regaling us with stories of the area and sharing her knowledge of of the local fauna and flora. Jen, the leader of the expedition, was thorough, efficient, and informative combined with an easy friendliness that made everyone quite comfortable. It was interesting to see the floating houses out in the fiords. This trip definitely made me want to come back and spend more time. I highly recommend it.

Our excursion started by meeting at the port. We were given heavy jacket to protect from the wind and necessary life vests. There were 28 of us on the yellow zodiac inflatable fast boat which took us to the bay for our instructions. We were split into two groups and given a more comfortable life vest which we could paddle in. Our guide talked about his experiences that brought him to Alaska. Would have liked a little more history of the area we were kayaking in. There was a clearing at the end of the bay where a Momma brown bear and cub were visible. All in all we had great time.
