Skunk Train: Pudding Creek Express from Fort Bragg

Overview
This relaxed and scenic 7-mile roundtrip journey departs the Depot in downtown Fort Bragg year-round, traveling along the beautiful Pudding Creek Estuary and passing into primeval ancient redwoods to the tranquil setting of Glen Blair Junction.

Trains will stop at Glen Blair Junction for 15 minutes, allowing you to get off and stretch your legs and explore. Or, if you’d like to spend more time walking our trails amongst the redwoods, you can remain and catch the next train (roughly two hours later). Plenty of time to explore. Feel free to bring a packed lunch (no alcohol, please) to enjoy at one of our picnic tables.

These were some of the first tracks ever laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885, and we've been carrying passengers on them ever since.

The website was where the tickets were purchased. Real murky purchasing experience. Firstly, it wouldn’t allow any other option other than 11 AM. It was a three hour drive to get there with kids. Secondly, it wasn’t able to purchase VIP tickets unless I had already made a purchase. It was a Mother’s Day bogo event. I wanted to upgrade my and my friend’s seats to VIP. I ended up inadvertently purchasing six tickets for the four of us. The general manager was not concerned about compensating or offering other options to make up for the glitchy website and unclear purchase options. Topping it all off, the classic train set we got from the gift shop didn’t even work, would not make a full revolution around the track. It wouldn’t actually even go more than an inch before stopping. Manufacturing flaw? General manager flaw? Website glitches? I think I’d rather spend my hard earned money on something more satisfying and worth the price, the scenic views were not something I’d write home about. I live within a few miles of headwaters forest. It was all overpriced and not only was I disappointed at the cost, my daughter was unhappy about the cheap train set that didn’t work. I don’t recommend.

Very calm ride. Great scenery. Nice place for a picnic lunch at halfway. Employees very friendly and helpful. Only negative is you couldn't hear the story from inside the cars.

We did the bike ride with electric assist along train tracks for a beautiful ride through the woods and along the water. You biked a couple of miles and stopped at a covered pavilion for something to eat, hike or just relax. The train followed us so if you wanted to have a drink there was a bar car. At night they have a train ride to the same place with fire pits and lots of seating.
