Skunk Train: Pudding Creek Express from Fort Bragg

Overview
This relaxed and scenic 7-mile roundtrip journey departs the Depot in downtown Fort Bragg year-round, traveling along the beautiful Pudding Creek Estuary and passing into primeval ancient redwoods to the tranquil setting of Glen Blair Junction.

Trains will stop at Glen Blair Junction for 15 minutes, allowing you to get off and stretch your legs and explore. Or, if you’d like to spend more time walking our trails amongst the redwoods, you can remain and catch the next train (roughly two hours later). Plenty of time to explore. Feel free to bring a packed lunch (no alcohol, please) to enjoy at one of our picnic tables.

These were some of the first tracks ever laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885, and we've been carrying passengers on them ever since.

I love train rides and this did not disappoint. I did think it was overpriced. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip out to the redwood grove and the brief stop among the trees. So beautiful! History of the train also interesting. I wish there were benches to sit on in the open air car so passengers didn't have to stand. I also wish they did not allow dogs on the train. I understand they are trying to raise money and get approval to expand the depot area and fix/rebuild tunnel 1 to re establish service to Willets. I hope they are successful. Keep in mind, if you choose to stand in the open air car you will be showered with debris from the trees. When I brushed off my hair and clothes I found several tiny caterpillers and spiders in addition to leaves, twigs and seed pods.

It was a fun experience with beautiful views! At the junction the short hiking trails are beautiful as well.

Staff was super friendly and helpful, the price is a bit steep for the short trip and having multiple kids to pay for. I'd definitely recommend packing a lunch and exploring between trains instead of rushing to make it back on board in 20 minutes. Kids loved it so it's worth the cost in the end.
