Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Our guide, Ben, was great, and half the fun was the tour of Skagway and picture opportunities away from the actual dog sled experience. The dogs were REALLY into it, and my 12-year-old especially loved it.

We had an AMAZING experience on our trip to the musher's camp in Skagway. Our guide, Chris, was outstanding. Really knowledgeable about the area, the history, and the camp itself. And on top of it, he was hilarious and everyone in our group is still talking about it, more than a week later. Our ride with the dogs was incredible. I regret that I don't know the name of our musher, but he so clearly cared for the dogs on the team he was working with and was really informative about the training, the dogs, and the art of mushing. Of course, as great as these two were, meeting the dogs was the real highlight. It was fascinating to watch the dogs go from play to work and right back to play. The puppies - what can we say? Holding a snugly snoozing puppy will turn anyone's day around. And in case you have qualms about a place with working animals, I just want to note that the mama dog of the newest puppies was a bit anxious about having people come up to hold them. One of the experienced mushers climbed into the pen with her and the puppies and laid snuggling and calming that mama the entire time, showing extraordinary care for the well-being of the animals.

Our dogs are the best and most hardworking of us all! We appreciate you making us part of your Alaska vacation plans. You are welcome back anytime!

I went with two of my friends and this made our day! The sledding was so fun and the dogs were so happy :). They taught us a little bit more about dog sledding and then we got to pet the puppies, teenage, and retired sled dogs. SO fun!
