Overview
This very popular eco-adventure and combines the best of a boat tour, a kayak tour and a walking tour in a single great learning experience. Depending on the season, you can encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds. A very comfortable transport boat will bring you deep into Everglades National Park with your Florida Master Naturalist guide. Once at the first destination, the tour slows down using very stable, comfortable kayaks to get you close to the flora and fauna. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin! (No previous kayaking experience is required and there are single and two-person kayaks on every tour). Continue your interpretive experience with a walking tour on remote, pristine barrier island beach … a beach that is seldom visited by others.

My wife and I took the 9am Boat assisted Kayak tour on Sunday, October 7th. We arrived at the office, where Heather was there to greet us and check us in. She was an absolute joy to visit with. Shortly after checking in, Captain Dan arrived and we were on our way. After a short golf cart ride to the dock, we got on the boat, with our kayaks, and off we went. Captain Dan was very knowledgeable and personable. We always felt safe and comfortable with Captain Dan. I think our tour lasted right at 4hrs. The time went very fast. The boating part of the tour was a lot of fun. We saw so many different birds during our trip around the islands, heading out towards open water. We saw quite a few dolphins too. Once we arrived to an area close to open water, Captain Dan got us off of the boat and in to our kayaks. My wife and I chose to go solo while kayaking. We have kayaked in the Everglades once before, in the mangroves. We were able to get back in to kayaking mode quite easily on this trip. We went on with our kayaks until we got to the last small island before the open water. There we grounded the kayaks and were able to explore the island and walk out on a sandbar where the water was on a slowly rising tide. This was so much fun for us. Captain Dan pointed out quite a few things in the water, including a bunch of Horseshoe Crabs. We had so much fun. After we were finished with our island exploration, we kayaked back in the direction of our anchored boat. The wind had really picked up on our return to the anchored boat, so Captain Dan gave us the option of saving us time and energy by staging ourselves in the edge of the mangroves while he kayaked on to the boat and returned to pick us up. This saved us quite a bit of time, and a lot of energy. Thank you very much. Our boat trip back to the dock was just as enjoyable. Our time with Captain Dan was so much fun. I would not hesitate to take this same tour again.
