Small Group Boat, Kayak and Walking Guided Eco Tour in Everglades National Park

Overview
This very popular eco-adventure and combines the best of a boat tour, a kayak tour and a walking tour in a single great learning experience. Depending on the season, you can encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds. A very comfortable transport boat will bring you deep into Everglades National Park with your Florida Master Naturalist guide. Once at the first destination, the tour slows down using very stable, comfortable kayaks to get you close to the flora and fauna. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin! (No previous kayaking experience is required and there are single and two-person kayaks on every tour). Continue your interpretive experience with a walking tour on remote, pristine barrier island beach … a beach that is seldom visited by others.

Originally we hadn't planned to go to the 10,000 Islands area of the Everglades NP. Due to a scheduling error (on my part), we rearranged our schedule and decided to tour this part of the Park. Glad we did. The only way to get a sense of the 10,000 Islands if from the water. We booked the Boat Assisted Kayak tour. Since this was the beginning of the off-season and mid-week, we had a private tour. Really sweet. Captain Dan took us out for about 1/2 hour in their motorized boat. This really was to get us out and away from shore. It was terrific. As he said, the solitude is great. Our whole tour we saw only two other boats (and they were in the distance). He weaved in and out of the mangrove 'islands' while keeping up a narrative explanation of what we were seeing. After awhile, he stopped the boat and put the kayaks into the water. We paddled from the boat to a nearby island (Rabbit Island) where we got off and strolled on the beach. Captain Dan gave us a 'tour' of the island showing us signs of the life there as well as a number of shells from ocean dwellers. On the way back, knowing that we wanted to see manatee, he did some detours in an attempt to see some. All to no avail. We did see some dolphins. And the whole way we saw fish, a ray and lots of birds. The only disappointment of the trip was the kayak portion. Really, we were in the kayak only as a conveyance from the boat to the island. Would liked to have a bit more of a kayak experience. Overall, a really good trip.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Boat Assisted Kayak Eco Tour with Captain Dan. Glad you got to see all the wildlife you did see, unfortunately we cannot predict or guarantee any of it. The sawfish was a very uncommon site!

My wife and I took the boat/kayak tour today. Dan, our guide was great and extremely knowledgeable. The variety of wildlife we saw was amazing from osprey to welks to dolphins - and of course all three species of mangroves. Even some ancient Indian pottery. The recent hurricane has uncovered and deposited many items not normally found. Highly recommended!

My wife and 8-year-old son and I took the boat-assisted kayak tour of the Everglades 10,000 Islands and it was amazing and so much fun! Captain Dan, who led the tour, was incredibly knowledgable about the area, the wildlife, the environment, etc. We saw incredible birds (ospreys, egrets, terns), dolphins, and even a juvenile bull shark! Captain Dan was an expert guide and a great teacher for our son, and us. The entire staff was also so helpful. I can't recommend this tour enough!
