This was our third manatee swimming trip with Captain John Spann and the Plantation on Crystal River crew. Joining us on this year's trip was Captain Bob, who helmed the boat and told us wonderful historic tales in addition to hot chocolate and water when we got back on the boat.
Since our family had made this adventure twice before, on this trip my brother and his family joined us during their Christmas vacation as well as a couple visiting from Berlin, Germany.
There are really no words to adequately describe just how cool swimming with the manatees at Crystal River is, but suffice it to say, I fully believe anyone who loves nature and the water, (and those that don't probably would after this), should do this at least once. (And, as we've found out, once is not enough as you'll want to go back again and again.)
Captain Spann knows manatees and how best to safely see them in their natural habitat. We stayed the night at the Plantation hotel and got on the first boat going out early Saturday morning right before New Year's. After a few hours living our own real-life nature show experience, we went back to the hotel for a wonderful breakfast -- after a brief stop in the hotel's hot tub.
We can't thank Capt. Spann and the good folks at Plantation enough for not one, but three wonderful experiences. We felt so blessed to be able to do this and again, I can't recommend it enough.
