My daughter and I took this trip while I was in town visiting her for Tulane's Parent Weekend. She loves anything outdoors and adventurous. We had taken a pontoon boat swamp tour a few years ago (which was fun) but this was so much better. It was a very small group and we went back into areas of the swamp you couldn't get to in a regular boat. It was much more personal and you really got see and appreciate the beauty of the swamp. I never thought of swamps as beautiful until I took this tour.
Our guide, Dustin, was very knowledgeable and professional, but he kept the talks light and made sure everyone had fun too. It was the perfect mix information and adventure.
The water is not deep, and it's 'still', making for easy paddling. But you are out there a few hours, so you need to be reasonably fit for paddling on and off. There was plenty of stopping to talk and view things, so you do get to rest.. It's not constant paddling, but it is a fair amount of paddling by the time it's over. Plan accordingly.
The guide called it a 'nature hike on water' which was the perfect analogy. We did see a few small gators. They do not feed them (which is good because I don't want to be in a kayak trying to feed a gator!!!). He said they do not always seem them. So if you're wanting a guarantees gator sighting, better go with the guys that feed them. But those trips (which are fun too) are more of a canned 'touristy' trip. This trip is much more personalized and you really get to see and hear the swamp ecosystem in it's most natural state. I would highly recommend this trip. Prices were reasonable and they were very professional and well organized.
