We had a great time doing the kayaking tour with our guide Nick. He was extremely knowledgeable, which was refreshing after going on a not-so-great bike tour with another company the day before.
He talked to us about native plants and animals in the area with a lot of Louisiana history thrown in. He was definitely proficient at his job which made it more enjoyable. I was bummed that we didn't see any gators, but of course that is unpredictable. If you are torn about how to view the swamps, consider a tour like this where you can see the environment without disturbing it, hurting any animals or contributing to pollution (air boats).
It was safe, fun and fairly priced.
Also if you have young children who aren't well behaved, perhaps leave them at home. There were very misbehaved children on our trip who were not English speaking, so the guide would have to constantly ask the parents to keep them in the boat. Our guide did a great job of keeping his calm and trying to keep the family safe, but they kept wanting to let their children hang out of the boat, stand up in the boat, and put their arms in the water. I know this had to be stressful for our guide who was trying to provide a safe, fun tour for everyone. If you can't control your children, don't bring them along. It just stresses out the entire group and we wanted to have a safe, enjoyable trip with no accidents!
