Overview

You never forget your first wave, as surfing enthusiasts in Hawaii are prone to say, so make sure your first wave is a good one with a small-group surf lesson on the Big Island. This 2-hour Kona surf lesson starts with the basics, like surfing safety, etiquette and how to paddle and pop up on the board. Then take to the water to practice your newfound skills on the waves of Kahalu'u Bay! A knowledgeable surfing instructor will be in the water with you, telling you when to paddle and when to pop up. It’s a Hawaiian experience everyone should try at least once!

My husband and I had such a good time with our instructor Ben for our surfing lesson! We signed up for a small group but it was early morning and we ended up getting a private lesson! Ben was a fantastic teacher for our first time surfing, and fun to chat with about his experience living on the Big Island as well. Highly recommend!

The small group lesson was a great way to get out on a surfboard for the first time and catch some waves! They did a very short dry-land intro and then just got us out on the water to learn by doing! There were 3 of us to one instructor and he was very friendly. He would give me tips when I came back and asked what I could do better. But I loved that they just got us out there! I caught some great waves and it was so much fun! Also, I found it to be one of the more economical options in the area.
