I took my 12 year old grandson on this tour with me, thinking he would enjoy it. He sure did, as did I. Drue was our guide for the day and he was excellent. He was practically non stop with his education of what we were seeing, the history, and the Hawaiian culture. Not to forget his knowledge of the flora and fauna we saw. He was very enthusiastic, which was infectious. After being picked up at our hotel in the Waikoloa area, 12 of us headed northeast through Waimea in a comfortable van. The landscape and weather changed dramatically. Our first stop was the north coast above th Waipio Valley. Here we met Douglas who transferred us to a 4WD van. We crawled down the narrow, winding, steep, slippery road with amazing views. We made several stops and saw waterfalls and other incredible views. It was like being in Jurassic Park - I half expected a dinosauer to step out from behind a corner and pluck someone out of our windowless van. We saw amazing plants, flowers, fruits, wild horses, birds, etc. Douglas gave us a great education and explained things quite well. He was very enthusiastic as well, and we all really enjoyed him. He has a great since of humor. His company is Waipio Valley Tours. We forded streams and canals, were up close with wild horses, saw interesting homes, and really felt like we were in another world. We returned to the top of the mountain for our lunch, which I thought was delicious. Drue really took care of us. We then traveled east to see Akaka falls, which was fantastic. Stopped at another one with an abundance of water flowing over due to recently rains. Too full to swim under. One to Hilo and Rainbow falls. All beautiful scenery along the way and great stories and education by Drue. Another hilight was the nut, fruit, and spice farm. Fun, educational, and beautiful. Fun exploring various trees to guess the spice. Smelled/tasted nutmeg, allspace, cinnamon, and more. My grandson really enjoyed this. You dont get to experience things like this on your own, which is why I love day tours. We returned to the west over Saddle Road, which was stunning. LIke being on yet another planet. Picked up at 7:30, returned at 5:30. Happy and satisfied fully with the tour. I highly recommend Wasabi Tours and Drue. Couldn't ask for more. Great price as well for what you get.

I was put on the Waipi'o Valley tour by mistake. Everything happens for a reason. This was a great tour. Dreu Basaldua is the best guide. He takes great pride in sharing his vast knowledge of the island and its history. Dreu spreads his very special light within with every story he tells. Thank you Dreu for making this a wonderful way to spend my day. Tamra E Drake Palmer , Ak

Based on what was provided this tour is way over priced. We were never told when we signed up for the tour that you could swim at the private waterfall we stopped at. No mention of swimming in the Wasabi brochure. The day was very hot and a dip in the cool water sure would have been nice. The mac nut farm visited on the tour only seemed interested in selling their products. Waste of time to shop here. I would not recommend this tour even though the tour guide was very good.

Aloha, Thank you for the feedback. I want to address some of the points that was brought up in the review. We always try to offer the best tours at a reasonable price. This particular tour costs $179 while other companies offering similar tour charges $250 plus per person. Due to limited space, our brochure does not include all the details, however, the reminder email we sent to all of our guests include information such as bring towels and swimsuit for the Waipio Valley and Waterfall Tour. As you can see from many of the positive reviews, the private farm is a big hit among our guests. Not only do you get taste fresh cracked mac nuts and local fruits, as well as see variety of exotic spice trees, but also view rainbow falls from a private lookout. The gift shop is an optional stop and offers locally made souvenirs to support the local economy. Mahalo, Jay
