We took the Waipio Valley and Hamakua Coast Tour with Kawika Duncan as our guide. The places we saw were simply amazing, what a beautiful coast !! before detailing this all day adventure I want to say that our guide Kawika was something special... he loves the land, the culture, the outdoors, his life style and you can feel it when he shares experiences and when he tells you about the places we were looking at. It makes such a big difference when you tour with someone like him. He was professional and very courteous, he told us amazing stories to complement the land´s history itself... he did a terrific job and we are very thankful!! The Hamakua Coast is on the east side of the Big Island. Departing from Kona and Kohala Coast resorts, we visited some of the most beautiful valleys and waterfalls in Hawaii and saw rare and exotic plants and flowers that can only be found on the Big Island. On this guided small group tours, you will learn the rich history, cultures, folklores, geography, and much more from our knowledgeable local tour guide. Waimea town and Park Ranch, the majestic Waipio Valley floor, the Hawaii Island's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls, 1300 ft, which cascades down the back of the valley, the Waipio Valley lookout, the towering Akaka Falls, which plummets 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. In Hilo, you will visit the famous Rainbow Falls. Beautiful experience, thank you guys !!!

The guides were great and very knowledgeable. Long time in the van. OK Farms didn't work out as well and probably could have been omitted to allow for more time at Rainbow Falls. Lunch was good.

Great tour. If you're looking to compliment a volcano tour or just something different this is a great choice.

Pace was good, tour guide was involved, small bus, etc...

You'll definantly want to book this or another tour that actually goes down in to Waipio valley not just the viewing spot. Note the waipio valley part is in a seperate van from the rest of the day and with a local guide ours grew up in the valley. Note that the ride down/up isn't the only attraction, the road in the valley has several water crossings. The valley trip can be quite bumpy so just a warning.

The private waterfall was ok, however akaka is more impressive. no one in our group opted to go swimming but was a good stop anyway.

The stop at OK farms was as unexpected highlight, it is a farm that happens to give tours not a tourist trap. We had a tour of parts of it from one of the employees which was really great, got to see the mandatory macadamia trees however the spice trees were an unexpected suprise. I think everyone in our group enjoyed this stop so much so that our guide needed to get us going as we were spending more time than expected there.

Also of note the lunch provided by this operator was excellent, it's the best of any tour company I've ever seen.
