Very poor value for money, our guide gave no information on the area around us, lunch was just poorly made roll and two tasteless salads

I'm very sorry your tour and lunch were so unimpressive. Our tour guides are trained to provide a lot of information about the history and culture of this region, mostly in the form of stories. Since this doesn't seem to have happened on the tour we showed you that day, I would like to follow up and try to find out why it went wrong. Please feel free to contact me so that I may try and make it up to you.

We booked Platypus due to it’s fantastic reviews and recommendations by The Lonely Planet and our accommodation hosts in Napa. Due to its excellent reviews we had high expectations for our tour around Sonoma. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. While I was happy with the all the vineyards we visited the pace of the day was drawn-out. We continually seemed to be waiting around (and not for people on our tour). This was especially evident at our first winery, Buena Vista; we seemed to wait for every other tour group to go through before us. This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the day. I was also disappointed with the lunch. I acknowledge that the price of our tour was very competitive compared to other tours in the area, but I did expect more than sandwiches and couscous that our driver made. There was nothing wrong with the sandwiches but after experiencing many wine tours around the world I expected a little more. I’m not sure if our driver/guide was less experienced than others who get the great reviews on here but unfortunately he missed the mark for us.

Our tour started late. We were picked up in Sonoma 45 minutes after the designated pick-up time with still one more pick-up to make. We visited three wineries and one strip mall tasting room. Our driver Micheal was very knowledgeable but rushed us from one stop to the next because we were so behind schedule. The first vineyard, Loxton, was one of the best winery experiences I've ever had. It is small and the owner is so engaging and knowledgable. Will return there anytime I'm in the area because his wines and award winning port are only available there. The second vineyard was St Anne's Crossing. The tasting here was borderline insulting. The wine was just poured, the stewards seemed indifferent. Maybe the poor quality lunch that Platypus served to us while we were there influenced the tasting but it left a lot to be desired. The third vineyard was Deerfield. It was fun. Some good wines served by a steward in training which was also fun. Finally, the strip mall tasting room was forgettable and I already have forgotten it's name. The highlight of the tour was our group...we had so much fun together. Lots of laughs! Platypus did accomplish part of its mission which is to promote some of the smaller lesser known wineries in the area and I did appreciate that. However I don't think I would repeat with them.

Thanks for sharing your tour comments. I'm very sorry this tour was less than compelling. I am not sure why your tour guide chose some of those destinations, but I will follow up with him. If you are inclined, please contact me as I would like to try and make it up to you somehow.
