Snorkel Tour to Captain Cook Monument Kailua-Kona, Big Island

Overview
If you are new to or have never snorkeled before this is the ideal choice! Particularly good for families with younger children or swimmers who aren’t certain if they are “seaworthy” enough for one of our longer trips.

This trip is much slower-paced and affords guests time to become more familiar and comfortable with the exciting and beautiful sport of snorkeling. Our crew will be happy to help you adjust your mask, fins, and snorkel and help you become comfortable viewing the tropical fish while using a flotation assistance device we call a “noodle”. You'll even watch for dolphins and whales along the way!

We were 5 including two teenagers and took the afternoon tour. Captain Erika was professional, nice, funny and knowledgable. We were only 6 passengers total with another gentlemen and the size of our groups and the boat made this experience even more enjoyable and intimate. Way better than the floating bus with 120 people on board... so it seems. We were shown caves, lava formation and cliff on the way to Captn Cook with good story telling from Erika. Once at the snorkeling site, we were all in awe and amazed by the beauty of what was under water. The color and diversity of fish was beyond my expectations. The water is very calm in that area and made snorkeling very safe. My two teenagers were delighted by this trip which will definitely remains one of the highlight of the trip. We all had a very fun time.

Mahalo nui for your review! Not only do we love to hear about you and your family's amazing time with us, but we are so grateful to know that we were able to help create memories (hopefully) for a lifetime! The afternoon snorkel is one of our favorite trips to run! There is something more laid back and peaceful about it, so we're glad you got to experience that with us! Our island is very special to us, so thank you for allowing us to share that with you and your o'hana! Aloha & a hui hou (until next time)!

We had Captain Ericka and she did a wonderful job. She showed us some sites before we headed to snorkel. There were tons of fish which we were excited to see. The previous night we did a manta dive with another group which was fine, but Dolphin Discovery was so much better. They had a much higher quality of equipment which made it so much more enjoyable. We did not have the constant fighting with equipment like the night before. Highly recommend!

We took this adventure on April 21. It was amazing. It was about a 35 minute boat ride from the marina to the snorkel location. On the way, our Captain, Erika, gave us a wide range of information about the area, the caves, the lava tubes, and local history. You could tell she loved and respected the area. She had a wonderful attitude and was very personable. When we arrived at the Captain Cook Monument snorkel site, we had about an hour and a half to snorkel and see the area. There were other boats and many people in the area but it was not overcrowded and we were able to see tons of fish and coral. It was breathtaking. I understand why they said this is where this area was the inspiration for the Finding Nemo movie. While we were snorkeling, Erika, our Captain, had cut up fresh pineapple and had chips and sodas waiting for us when we got back on the boat. What an added bonus! Since we were doing the afternoon snorkel, Erika did say that the chances of seeing dolphins was not as high as in the morning. However, as we were getting ready to leave, the dolphins decided to do us a favor and appeared. 3 different pods of dolphins including Spinner dolphins gave us a 15 minute bonus show. What a great way to end a wonderful afternoon. I would recommend this company for any water experience on Kona. They were exceptional in the way we were treated and Erika was the best Captain.
