This tour was an included part of Our Deep South & Texas Coach Tour. The first thing to realise is that your are actually at a Visitor Center, NOT the NASA Johnson Space Center, parts of which you are bused to from the VC. The VC contains not only a cafe, gift shop, etc, but quite a number of interactive displays and a Space Shuttle Exhibit. There is also an excellent Saturn V exhibit in a large building , plus some large rocket exhibits, but they are away from the VC and require bus transportation. You can also get to visit the Astronauts Training Complex and Mission Control Center, which are part of the working Johnson site, but once again, you require bus transportation. The big problem is they just don't have enough buses, and if you are there in the afternoon, like we were, when its at its busiest, you spend a lot of time waiting in queues to get you round the site. WE managed to get to see Mission Control, where we had an excellent talk about its history, its set-up and whilst we were there could see them tracking the International Space Station, which was most interesting. We also visited the Saturn V building, which is a MUST, excellent and informative displays here. We also got to visit the Shuttle, but as the center closes at 5pm, and we never got there til just after 1.15pm, missed a lot of good exhibits. As with all these places found the shop/ cafe prices high. Well worth a visit, but give yourselves at least 6/7 hours.

Expect to spend the WHOLE day at Houston Space Center. We arrived at 11 and stayed until closing and missed some of the displays. The exhibits were informative and detailed. Space exploration ranged from historical space travel (Gemini, Mercury, Apollo and Shuttle flights), current space (International Space Station), and future (Mars exploration). When we visited, there were three (3) tours (expect an hour for each tour) that were included in the price of general admission. At the end of each tour, you get a chance to visit the "Rocket Garden" which houses a Saturn V rocket and if you want to bypass the rocket garden or already saw it, you can pick up any tram to get you back to main center. There is an area displaying a shuttle replica of Independence mounted on an actual Boeing shuttle aircraft carrier which allows visitors to walk through both. Food court was not outrageous in price. SAVING HINT: If you are going to be in Houston more than a day, you may want to consider purchasing Houston City Pass which will cover admission cost to JSC.

Had a great time with my 16 year old grandson, the only disappointing aspect of our visit was the extremely heavy rain that closed the outside activities for the day - hence the overall rating. Would still highly recommend to fellow travelers.
