Mike our guide/driver went above and beyond. We were a small group of 4 and he took good care of each one of us. He is friendly, knowledgeable about the area, fauna and flora. Good communicator and sense of humor. The hike itself is easy to moderate at the Barbara Waterfalls since it’s strewn with boulders and sharp twist and turns - easy to twist an ankle if you’re not watching. The waterfalls are definitely not to be missed, though - go ahead and do this walk/hike! You will not regret the panorama!

Hello and thank you for leaving us a review of your experience on the valley & forest hike! Thanks for your explanation of the difficulty and terrain conditions you encountered. I just responded to another review that mentioned that this tour is on wide, maintained trails. While that is true for a portion, the Barbara Falls section is less maintained and can be difficult for some. With that said, our guides are skilled with helping people navigate the roots, boulders, and mud down by the falls. I appreciate your insight in letting people know about what to expect! Thanks again; take care!

First the good. Guide Mike was truly great and actively shared his knowledge. His love of the outdoors was obvious. Scenery was also great especially given its proximity to central Anchorage. The less good. This is not a hike. It is a snails pace walk through a local park with the potential for a moose or bear sighting (there was plenty of scat) on trails so wide and maintained on 90% of the terrain it’s almost as if paved. While again Mike was really great, you really don’t need a guide and certainly for a group you may be much better off economically getting an Uber there and back than paying for multiple persons plus tips. That’s just an economic reality. Additionally, if you want to move at even a moderate clip and/or get your heart rate up, this “hike” is not that. If however you want “easy” transportation, an easy stroll with nice scenery with someone that shares their knowledge and knows how to use bear spray, this could be just right.

Hello and thanks for your review. It sounds like maybe our alpine trek or full day hiking adventure would have been a better fit for you. We try to let people know on our tour description, and reviews, about the mileage, elevation gain and type of terrain the best we can about the trail. I would not say that this trail is almost as paved. We have guests that would say otherwise, and it's important to point that out. While some of the trails we visit are wider and maintained, we also visit some that are rocky, rooty, and slippery. It depends on the day, and where we deem it best to go. We serve old and young that would definitely consider this a hike, and then some that would call it a walk. It depends on your hiking experience and ability I appreciate your highlighting the chance for wildlife viewing. That's what makes this tour such an attractable option for people. We constantly see bear and moose on this tour. We are one of the only operators in the Anchorage area that provides opportunity for wildlife viewing in a natural area just outside of Anchorage, aside from seeing them in a setting like the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center offers. That's a HUGE value add for people looking to join our tour. As you mention, we have knowledgeable, safe, and skilled guides that offer more than just hiking through a backcountry trail. We share passion, stories, safety, education of flora & fauna and so much more. For those looking for an intense hike, look up our alpine trek or full day hiking adventure. We can customize your trip, and offer as much incline or bushwhacking as you'd like. For this hike, it's good to know that it's on a developed trail in an accessible area, and is fitting for most demographics. We personally don't think there is less good, it's all good! But, thanks for kindness, and your review.
