Oahu
This unique, 5-hour photo tour begins in Waikiki with a hotel pickup in a spacious, air-conditioned van. The sunrise tour departs from the hotel an hour before the sun comes up, then a drive to a spectacular beach for a breathtaking view of the sun at dawn as it appears on the horizon with splashing waves and tide pools. After sunrise we stop for a quick breakfast and continue our tour stopping at 5-6 different locations around the east side of the Oahu. Learn how to use light, and discover what framing, shutter speed, focal points and other important topics mean to composing a great image. Then explore the best places — and find the best angles — in which to take pictures on this breathtaking island. It’s the best of both worlds: a tour with an experienced local guide who shares their knowledge of the Hawaiian history and culture and a mini photo lesson with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world for a postcard-perfect sunrise. Along the way, learn about Hawaii’s history, its wildlife and the geography from the naturalist guide who is not only an expert in photography, but also a Hawaii insider with an in-depth knowledge of the island of Oahu. This photography tour is suitable for all skill levels — from beginners to advanced shooters, using everything from smartphones to high-end DSLR cameras. At the end of the tour, walk away with some incredible sunrise images, an abundance of professional photography tips that will last a lifetime and an appreciation of Oahu’s rich history and culture. This photography tour ends with a hotel drop-off in Waikiki.

Marie, sorry this review has taken so long cannot believe it has been 3 months since we visited Hawaii. This was a private half day sunrise tour. This was one of the best ways to start our Hawaiian vacation. We booked a half day sunrise tour with Blue Hawaii Photo Tours. Marie picked us up at 545 AM which was fine as we were still on east coast time. During the ride to Sandy Beach Marie found our interests in photography and once we arrived she offered tips to all of us for the various equipment we were using. I was the only one with DSLR and she was great at giving me pointers to help with my sunrise photos. Helped to give various settings to bring the light out and we got some great pictures that morning. The ones I post do not do justice to the higher quality photos I was able to get. After sunrise at Sandy Beach it was off to breakfast at Kalpaw ai Cafe' and Deli for a wonderful breakfast and great coffee. Along the ride to the cafe we stopped near Makapu u point and while the road to the lighthouse was closed we were able to get a small glimps of the lighthouse and a beautiful beach as well. After Breakfast it was off to Byodo-In Temple and again a lovely temple that offers great serinity but also allows some contrast for photos of the mountain background and various colors. Again thank you Marie for all your tips along the way. You helped to improve my eye and allow me to experiment more with exposure time etc to get better quality photos. It was then off to a waterfall which for the life of me I cannot remember the name of....but again just a great location and beautiful way to start our day. It was a half day tour filled with a lot of time for photos but also a great way to orient yourselt fot Oahu and get your bearings so that if you do explore on you own you have a better feel for the island and area. Again my family and I cannot thank Marie enough for her time and knowledge. She not only improved our photo taking ability but also gave us some excellent history of the Island chain and its people. Highly recommend for a great start to your Hawaiian vacation.

Aloha Kenneth, Thank you for your detailed and kind review. I'm so happy you enjoyed the tour and captured some great photos. I love to share the Hawaiian history, culture and geology. When I first began taking photos many years ago other photographers helped me so I'm passing on the tradition of assisting other photographers. A Hui Hou Mahalo Marie

Marie was so knowledgeable, helpful and patient as she took us from Waikiki down to Sandy Beach for sunrise then several other spots where we were able to explore various aspects of our cameras’ capabilities and create some beautiful photos. Marie also shared great information on Hawaiian history and culture.

Two of us took the sunrise photo tour during Christmas week. I've been to O’ahu many times but have never done anything similar to this tour. It was wonderful. Marie took us to incredibly photogenic spots for sunrise as well as a few probably less visited spots. A friend who's a local came with me and admitted that they did not know some of these spots. Highly recommend even if you're not into photography (all 6 or 7 of us used our phone only). Marie clearly has a love and great knowledge of the island and its history. So worth it - and much better than the usual large tour buses you see everywhere (and the tour is limited in the number of people as well, ours was a limit of 7, though some of the other tours may be a bit larger). Definitely do it if you're interested in photography or being just a bit off the usual tourist tracks.

Aloha Thank you for your glowing review. I'm delighted you enjoyed the tour and that your local friend found some new spots too! Yes all of our photo tours are limited to 7 people as we drive a 12 passenger van. We want to give everyone plenty of space. Come again to Oahu - we are always discovering new hidden gems. Mahalo
