The Real Hollywood Walking Tour

Overview
On our Hollywood tour we go back in time to when the name first appeared on maps in the 1880’s, then we’ll tell you how and why the start-up movie industry first moved to this small farming town in the early twentieth century.

By walking the streets of Hollywood you’ll get the chance to discover the many hidden historic sites in the area (such as the oldest house in Hollywood, where Charlie Chaplin’s kids went to school), as well offering you the best up close and personal experiences of such icons as the Walk of Fame, the Capitol Records Building, the Egyptian Theater, the Dolby Theater (the home of the Oscars) and the TCL Chinese Theater where your Hollywood tour ends, in the perfect place to get lunch or get some great shots of the Hollywood Sign for Instagram.

Took the 2-hour walking tour with our family, including four kids 9-16 years old. Tour was fun and informative, and our guide, Vicky, was a delight! We had a great time learning about Hollywood landmarks old and new. Highly recommend this tour if you're visiting LA!

One might say “in Los Angeles the car is king, what would walking tours contribute?” The answer is “quite a lot.” My wife and I took The Real Hollywood Tour in the morning followed by The Central Downtown LA Tour in the afternoon. The sights were certainly interesting (I will not elaborate on all we saw), but the real highlights were the knowledge and good humor of our guides (Damien for Hollywood and Stuart for Downtown). Both are originally from the United Kingdom, but my wife and I saw no problem in this, they knew their adopted city very well and often non-natives are especially sensitive to a place’s particularities. I recommend doing both tours on the same day. I found this a very efficient use of time and energy. After the morning tour Damien brought us downtown on the subway and handed us to Stuart. Before the beginning of the second tour my wife and I had lunch at the marvelous central market where all the food stands are independent family-type establishments, no chain restaurant in sight. Is doing two walking tours in the same day too tiring? Not at all. Remember, you are not constantly walking, there are plenty of pauses for explanations and questions. I’m 66, in average shape, and had no problem at all. We certainly learned much more from these walking tours than we would have learned from wandering on our own with a guide book or from a drone-like bus tour.

This guy(Stuart) knew his stuff, both old and new. He shows you some really cool secret spots in Hollywood along with the must see tourist spots. Disappointed we were leaving that day and could not further enjoy those secret spots. I would recommend doing this tour at the BEGINNING of your stay. It sets a good footprint for the rest of your Hollywood visit. There are some good points for young children, but geared more for teens/ adults.
