Boldt Castle and Yacht House
Boldt Castle on Heart Island is located near Alexandria Bay, NY in the famed 1000 Islands Region. Whether you are making an annual visit to see whatā€™s new, looking for an affordable family vacation close to home or a couple seeking that romantic getaway, Boldt Castle and the Boldt Yacht House has something for you! In fact, the Castlesā€™ legendary beauty nestled among the St Lawrence Riversā€™ 1000 Islands will keep you returning year after year! The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) welcomes you to tour Boldt Castle to explore and experience an attraction like no other. Construction began on Boldt Castle in 1900 at the bidding of millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Boldt Castle was designed as their summer dream home. A castle rivaling those of Europe, built on the St. Lawrence River, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. However it was not to be, Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before the completion of the castle. Mr. Boldt was inconsolable and immediately stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy yearsā€¦ The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA), who owns and operates Boldt Castle and the Boldt Yacht House, invite you to explore our website. Here you can glimpse what awaits you at Heart Island. A chance to experience the Boldtā€™s tragic love story and the magnificence of a bygone eraā€¦

What a great way to spend a cloudy rainy day! Brad and Chuck made this excursion enjoyable, educational and exciting. The time we spent at Bolt Castle flew by the castle staff was very well informed and fun to talk to.

Wonderful tour with Captain Scott and First Mate Mike. Enjoyed a day filled with laughter and stories. We learned so much and were kept very safe. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable from the start. We were welcomed, provided a delicious lunch and given clear directions. Thank you ladies! The only downside was that we couldnā€™t stop to dock at the light house. Mother Nature has her own plans when she takes the dock though! A awesome experience well worth every penny!

Thank you Denise for the wonderful review! We also thank you for choosing to tour with us, mentioning our staff, and hope to see you again. When mother nature takes away a dock, the NYS Parks employees can put it back together. The island is open as of today!

We booked the Ultimate Sightseeing Tour with Clayton Island Tours. This 5-hour tour included a narrated cruise along the St. Lawrence River, a picnic lunch, and admission to Boldt Castle and the Rock Island Lighthouse. The picnic lunch had to be ordered in advance. We had chicken salad wraps which came with chips, a tiny container of potato salad, a drink, and tiny cookies. There were picnic benches at the launch site where we ate before getting on the boat. It was convenient but underwhelming. The boat itself was fine. The tour narrator pointed out interesting homes, island properties, history and natural features of the river, but it was very difficult to make out what he was saying. The tour company would be wise to invest in a new sound system because it really detracted from the experience. One of the main reasons we took this tour was because it stopped at Boldt Island and included admission. There was sufficient time there although the island and castle were overrun with tourists with no guided tours of the home. This is a reflection on Boldt Island itself and not on Clayton Island Tours. We stopped at the Rock Island Lighthouse on the return trip but it seemed like too much time was allocated to this site. Clayton Island Tours offers a variety of tour options. If we had to do it again, we would have taken a shorter tour that skipped the lunch and the lighthouse. Five hours was just too long.
