Phil is very knowledgeable and his mennonite roots allowed him to be an excellent source of information. He showed us the city and the go to spots, while sharing the rich history of Lancaster, paired with the tour of the peaceful country where we visited a few locations and met some amish people. The sights are great but you are really paying for a very thorough insight into Amish history, culture, lifestyle and the historic significance of Lancaster. He is well connected and respected by the amish community.

Phil was a fantastic tour guide. Visited from New England and fell in love with Lancaster all over again. Having been from Lancaster I thought I knew everything there was to know. Phil showed us so many hidden gems from Lancaster city throughout the rolling Amish hills. Phil was able to break all the Amish myths my boyfriend had about Amish Mafia, education, buggyā€™s, shunning, and voting. Know before you go- Dress for the weather. You can leave your coat on the van. The farm we visited was super tidy so you wonā€™t need to worry about ā€œroad applesā€ Bring your questions! Phil knows a ton about the area and culture and it a wealth of knowledge. Bathrooms are available along the way Most restaurants are closed on Sundays. Ask Phil for suggestions of places that will be open. Donā€™t miss out- The rolling hills/fields had cute farm dogs, kids driving farm equipment, and peaceful farm animals grazing in the fields. Sample the ice creams!!!! Theyā€™re amazing and you wonā€™t want to miss out. Take photos of the places you go! These photos will last a lifetime. It truly is an awesome authentic experience.

As a college professor of Modern World civilization I can be very picky about how well tour guides handle such tours. Indeed, I usually am. But not here. Phil did a wonderful job and his personal relationship to the Amish community allowed all sorts of insights no true outsider could have offered.
