I usually take a food tour when I visit a new city. I was only in DC for a long weekend and I almost didn’t sign up one. I’m glad I did. Aleena was a fantastic guide. Extremely friendly and personable. I was the only one on the tour and she treated me like I was a lifelong friend. First, we stopped at Ben’s Next Door and had an iconic half smoke and chili cheese fries. I now understand why Ben’s is a DC institution. It was delicious! Next, we stopped at an Ethiopian restaurant and sampled a vegetarian platter. It was my first experience with Ethiopian food and I thought the lentils were terrific. The third stop is a local brewery for some southern style pimento cheese. Perfect snack food. The last stop is a tea shop for some tea and a little sweet bite. Extremely tasty. It was a great experience and I highly recommend this tour. Time well spent!

A couple of years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life - to always include a food tour when traveling. This was my 5th time visiting DC and the friends I traveled with were also seasoned visitors (pun intended). We planned a trip that included both tourist faves and off-the-beaten-path experiences. With this food tour, we got to both sample delicious food as well as delve into the culture and history that makes DC so extraordinary! Disclaimer: I am a picky eater who dislikes spicy food. Still, I like to take risks and have no regrets about going on this tour. My mouth still waters when I recall the taste of the Ethiopian meal, especially. Aleena was our guide during this unique tour of U Street. She was an excellent host, offering to take pictures of us at the various murals and proving she was quite knowledgeable about the food, art, and history throughout our tour. She was incredibly respectful towards the staff at the various locations and she even sent us some photographs she captured of us on her camera. I highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I live in DC and received a gift card for the tour as a present. I was not entirely sure what to expect and how much I would get out of the tour living in DC and being familiar with the area, but absolutely learned a lot and even discovered a new places to come back to!
