Shawn was our bus driver, tour guide and more on Saturday tour. He and his family have been around horses all their life and he knows the area. He is warm, funny and has good stories. He knows how to call the horses in from the fields so you can pet them. We only made it to one farm but it had 3 huge barns, the male horse barn, the pregnant mare barn and the training barn that just got new horses brought over from the Keeneland Yearling sale that week. There were lots of horses of all ages and heritage in each barn and the adjacent fields. We got to pet and learn about many along with the cats and dogs. Shawn knows their names and heritages. We got to stop by a training facility to see a horse in a swimming pool, both owners, pool and of the horse were very friendly and informative. We stopped at Wendy's Corner for a restroom stop and a snack. We drove around one other older farm with English type buildings. It was a great afternoon. Our tour was slightly more than 3 hours. If the other tours state they go to 3 or more farms in a 3 hour tour they must just drive through and not stop for long.

You will not find a better tour guide or tour company than Shawn with Unique Horse Farm Tours!! From the time he smiled and said hello, to the time we exited the van for the last time and said our thank you's and good-bye's, Shawn was attentive, professional, knowledgeable, entertaining, informative, friendly, accommodating, funny, considerate and patient!!! The farms we toured were fabulous, but Shawn being our tour guide was absolutely sensational! We had SO much fun with him and seeing the farms he took us to, that the memories will stay with us forever. If you have the opportunity to go on this tour, please be sure to do so! You will not regret it! Thanks again, Shawn! When we get to Kentucky again, our first activity is to look you up and go on another tour. :)

From what we understand, each tour is different. Shawn asked our group if there was anything specific we were hoping to see. Most of the folks on the bus agreed that horses were the main item of interest. Our first stop was KatieRich Farms where we were able to snuggle, nuzzle, and interact with mares and their foals. We also visited the yearlings and it was great to be so close to young thoroughbreds - one of which could possibly be the next Triple Crown Winner! We also visited an equine hospital (not quite as exciting) and another farm where the mares and foals were in the pasture (so not as interactive of an experience). Shawn has plenty of interesting stories and can tailor any tour to meet the needs and preferences of the group. We'd definitely sign up for another tour if in the area.
