This is a 4 hour trip along the Verde Canyon from Clarkdale to Perkinsville and back. The scenery is magnificent - along the Verde River with views of Red Rocks. There is a recorded narration describing points of interest. Plus there is a guide who can give more information. She will also let you know when it would be good to go to the open-air car to get a better view. There are 2 levels of tickets - Coach is regular railroad seating. First class has more like living room seating with tables between pairs of seats. First class also offers a glass of champagne (or sparkling cider) and some appetizers: wings, boneless ribs, vegetable and fruit, and I'm told there were small brownies, (which disappeared quickly!). There was a bar in each car - our bartender, Melinda, went above and beyond searching out a beer my husband liked. At the "Depot" was a small museum, snack bar, restrooms, and sign boards highlighting flora, fauna, and history. All in all an enjoyable afternoon!

We finally took a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad the end of October 2019. The ride was a lot of fun and the ride very pretty. Our train attendant was very knowledgeable, personable, and fun. She pointed out sights all along the way and gave more information than the “canned” spiel. There were hot and cold snacks provided and drinks for sale, The prickly pear margarita was good just very very sweet.

Thank you for sharing your experience. While we have the canned spiel, we do agree that our human interaction is the BEST part of Verde Canyon Railroad.

The first thing I want to say is get there early. We were told to be there by noon and we got there about 11:45 and we should have gotten there about 11. There was a long line for lunch so we spent extra time in line instead of exploring and shopping (of course if you don’t like to shop then noon is ok). We checked in, had lunch and the railroad cars start loading at 12:30. We did the first class so we had very comfortable seats, got champagne when we were seated and had wonderful views and great appetizers. For appetizers we had chicken wings, ribs, assortment of fruits, pickles, olives, tomatoes and brownies. We could also walk to the next car that was an open car for better pictures and open views. We returned to the station about 4:30. If you are a veteran you get a discount on your ticket too.
