We really wanted to learn about the history of the area. Unfortunatley the narrative recording was almost completely non-functional. Still enjoyed the ride but it could have been so much more than just pretty scenery and drinks.

We are very sorry the narration was malfunctioning during your ride. We are working on updates and rewiring for that system this month.

I had a friend visiting from out of state, so we drove up to spend time in the vicinity. Our first stop was the train ride. We had paid for 2 first-class tickets, which allowed a light lunch--sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, brownie and free water bottles. What one needs to know is that if you are a party of two in first-class seating, you'll have window seats on one side of the train at a little table for two. Parties of three or more could be seated on opposing loveseat type couches on the other side of the train with a coffee table in the middle. My friend and I boarded, and chose our table for two. We happened to be seated at the front end of the train with a nice wide window. Shortly after we were seated, we overheard a party of 5 and the attendant for our car speaking. We gathered they had a reservation for 4, but were a party of 5. The cabin attendant asked us (in view of the party) whether we'd be willing to go back to a table for 2 at the other end of the car. We weren't thrilled with being asked to move right in front of the party of 5, but understood their dilemma, so obliged, only to find we were at the worst table for 2--a small window that we had to lean forward to look outside at. And we had difficulty hearing the narration over the speakers. The cabin attendant did allow us to go first to get our food because we had moved for her, but we felt a bit cheated of a better experience overall through no fault of our own. The other thing that was slightly disappointing to us was that the view is the same in the reverse direction, because the engine is driven back alongside the train and hooked to the caboose. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Nice we could walk a couple cars back to an open car for better viewing and photos, though it was windy back there and during the coldest week we had in Arizona in February, so we could only take doing that in small doses. My thought was that I've been on much more scenic sightseeing train rides than this one, and the journey was about 4 hours, so it got a bit long for us. We were happy to get off. I will say that I imagine the trip to be much more scenic and beautiful when the autumn leaves are in full color. There's a nice gift shop with a counter at which one can order food and eat it outside on tables.

Great activity for elderly people who can not walk or those that just want to take a laid back ride through the desert. Once boarding the train a light appetizer buffet is open with the chance to order additional beverages (Alcohol included.) Feel free to bring a packed lunch on the train if you would like something a little more substantial. The staff aboard the Phoneix train was very friendly and engaging! I would highly recommend this train ride!
