Our group of 24 senior citizens had a blast on the railroad last Thursday. Our reception at the railroad station was warm and efficient - our lunch vouchers enabled everyone to get their favorite sandwich and drink from the cafeteria. Special thanks to Ellen for her help on what turned out to be a very busy day for her. During the train trip, we enjoyed the entertaining and informative non-stop commentary on both the outside car and the inside car for the entire trip to Perkinsville. The countryside is exceptionally beautiful and rugged and we saw animals and birds (falcons and eagles) along the way. The sun shone all trip though it was a tad cold riding on the outside car. An enjoyable trip for everyone. Thank you.

I paid for a first class seating to sit on a sofa. If I had known that parties of two are forced to sit at a tiny table and have to give sofas to parties of 3 or more, I would have saved my money. Coaches are tired looking and food is overpriced. I would pass on this and spend time in Sedona. Extremely disappointed. Save your money!!

When making a first class reservation there is never a guarantee of couch seating. if you review the first class seating photos on our website and in our brochure you will see that the high back chairs, which are actually most coveted for their river view, are also depicted. This dual set-up has been the set-up at Verde Canyon Railroad from day one back in 1990. It is unfortunate that you thought the coaches were tired looking as we have just invested heavily in car updates this past month. New seating, paint, flooring and rebuilt bar structures have all been added. We watch our pricing closely and strive to price food at our cafe reasonably for everyone to afford it. We do hope you enjoyed the complimentary appetizers and Champagne toast in your first class car.

An excellent way to spend the afternoon. I rode the train with my parents who were visiting. We chose the first class car and it was definitely worth it. Really large comfortable seats and great views. Bottle of wine was only $16 and it had a cute train related label. The "buffet" is just some snacks, but what you are paying extra for is the great train car with better seats and way fewer people. You also have access to an open air car that has way fewer people than the coach section. The onboard hostess was very friendly and knowledgable. There is a cafe at the station where you can have lunch before you get on the train. I would advise eating in advance because there was a busload of people in front of us in line and the food is just mediocre. One of the coolest things was that they have a roadrunner who seems to be like the local pigeon. He is hanging around trying to get crumbs that people drop. I have lived in AZ for many years and only seem a Roadrunner on a few occasions, so that was fun. Really a great thing to do if you want to see some great Arizona scenery but are not able or interested in hiking.

Thank you Betsy for sharing your experience. We are so glad the roadrunner came out to see you. He is becoming a regular celebrity at Verde Canyon Railroad.
