The first class car was worth the difference in price. The seating is up-to-date overstuffed loveseats and chairs designed for sitting for 4 hours! The champagne toast, finger sandwiches, wings, cookies, and bottled water are included with the first class service. The live commentary about the history of this remote and picturesque area provided a good level of insight to the region. There is a shop at the depot with food, drinks and unique gifts and jewelry. The depot is about 35 minutes from Sedona.

Last time we were in the Sedona area we couldn't get a seat on the Verde Canyon Railroad because we waited to get tickets until we got there. This time we bought in advance on line. Very enjoyable. We did general seating (seniors) and were very satisfied. There was a guide in the car and also on the open air car that was also available. Both guides were knowledgeable and had plenty of interesting stories about the people who used to live in the canyon. Scenery was beautiful and we saw lots of mule deer, eagles and even a fast moving javelina.

We had lunch before we left at the station. What a deal! Two tacos and a bottle of water for $5. We rode coach on the train. The train itself (Tucson car) seemed authentic. It was very interesting to see the sites as the train wound its way along the canyon. We picked a seat on the left. That made it very hard to see. Pick a seat on the right as most everything to see is off on that side. Snacks and beverages were available throughout the trip. After we arrived at the turnaround place, one of the guides came through selling ice cream sandwiches for $1. The open car was enjoyable but got cool as the afternoon wore on. Again, the right side is the place with the best view. Several savvy riders got there ahead of us. So it was tough to see at times. We enjoyed our trip but probably wouldn’t do it again.
