This is a fairly long and not flat 8 mile ride. We did it in August dressed as tourists and were miserable hot. I suggest workout clothes for comfort and pick time of year wisely. That being said it was a good little workout and a fun/pretty way to spend a morning. This is all self directed..basically they give you a bike and tell you where to lock it. More transportation and exercise than anything else.

Hey there! We always strive for 5 stars and would love to know if anything besides the weather prevented us from meeting the mark. As I'm sure you're aware, the DC area can get pretty hot during the summer and we try to accommodate our guests with waters to keep cool. Please email me directly [email protected] if you have any further suggestions on the services we provide. Thank you!

First, I just want to say how much fun we had on our bike ride to Mount Vernon! We booked our bikes just 2 days before but had no trouble getting what we needed. We had a complicated reservation but the staff assured me that it was no problem. I wanted to reserve 3 bikes- one a comfort hybrid for my 25 year old niece and 2 upgraded to electric bikes for my sister-in/law and myself. My husband rides all the time and had his own bike. John was great getting us set up, explaining how to use the bike and lock and directions to get there and what to do, so off we went. What a beautiful ride! A great path along the Potomac and an easy 10 mile ride ( especially with an ebike). Unfortunately, my sister-in-law wasn’t feeling well and decided that after the mansion tour and a delicious lunch at the restaurant she wanted to Uber home. We called the company and- NO PROBLEM- they told us to just lock the bike up and they would come and pick it up! So she headed home and we toured the museum. On the way home, my niece ran over a staple and got a flat tire! Again, we called and -NO PROBLEM, John arranged for her to be picked up and brought back. We felt bad that we had been so difficult BUT they were the ones who kept apologizing I can’t say enough about the good service we received, they were so helpful and friendly , I would highly recommend Bike and Roll- especially the Alexandria team!

We visited our young adult kids who live in DC and treated them to the experience of, not only Mt Vernon, but biking along the Potomac. Awesome day out! 5 of us cycled from Alexandria to Mt Vernon and had the tour, and then we cycled back to Old Town. Bike an Roll were so easy to work with! They were very flexible with us since we weren't sure whether or not we would want to cycle both ways. In the end we did cycle both ways and it was a great experience. One of the beauties of booking the Mt Vernon tour through the bicycle rental is that you don't have to wait in line for a timed entrance. You can enter any time you like! See the house and the things around the house and be sure to also tour the grist mill and the distillery! Yes it was July in DC and, yes it was HOT, but cycling along the Potomac, in and out of the shady spots was really lovely.
