What To Expect

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Travelers will take of from Hilo Airport where they will fly directly to the volcanoes national park. Along the way they will see orchid farms and lush native forest that are in large part only found on big island. The volcanoes national park gives breathtaking views of lava flows both old and new.

Strong headwind so progress to the volcano was slow but it gave the pilot more time to describe what we were seeing. Once we got to the volcano we did not see a major eruption but did see some lava flowing. Very cool! Also, saw a “Glory Ring” a rainbow the circled the bottom of the helicopter. When the pilot said there was a rainbow I looked up and I should have looked down because we were flying above the clouds so above rainbows. I love rainbows this was just as awesome as the lava flow. A friend of mine who made the trip years ago also saw one.

Great view from anywhere in helicopter. Pilot Sammy was great and very informative. She went out of her way to make sure all on board could see the lava and water falls.

Our flight with Safari Helicopters, our pilot Sam and ground crew Stephanie and Cookie was the absolute highlight of our family trip. The view from any seat in the aircraft is fantastic, even for a bigger guy like me that got the middle seat! Sam has an inflight playlist that is so good that we’ve been trying to recreate it.
