What To Expect

Atlantis Submarines Waikiki

The Atlantis submarine Hawaii adventure begins with a short (approximately 10 minutes) shuttle ride out to the submarine boarding site. Descending below, your time underwater on the Oahu submarine tour is around 45 minutes. Returning to the world above, your shuttle is waiting to return you to land. The Oahu submarine tour dive site is home to many Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. On this truly eye-opening experience, you'll visit sunken ships, airplanes and other artificial reefs. The submarine has a spacious air-conditioned interior, large view ports and comfortable seating. If you haven't taken a trip to the bottom of the ocean before, the Atlantis Submarine Oahu Adventure is a "must do" for the whole family during your visit to Hawaii. Check out the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine offers an enhanced amount of personal space and large viewports only available to Premium Tour passengers.

The address that is on the Viator website is not the correct address for departure. We waited around 30-40 mins and called before we were told another address to go to which was also incorrect. Luckily we had allotted plenty of time so we made it to the pier but it was definitely a lot of walking and poor communication. Once we made it on the submarine the tour was awesome

This was a cool adventure. The kids enjoyed it but were kind of bummed by the info that the company placed the items (shipwrecks, planes, etc) in the ocean. It seemed more cool to them not knowing that info. Maybe they should consider leaving that part out. Stephen was a great guide for the tour. We went at least 102 ft deep. Saw lots of fish, a stingray and a shark!

Parent tidbits: Yes to this adventure. It’s less than 2 hours and worth the money. Spend time right after check-in on the dock- lots of turtle sightings. Once you board, head up top and sit on the side opposite the surfers. As boat turns around- amazing views of the surfers right in front of you. Get those photos as you head out. Boat gets rocky as you head out- but only for 4-5 big waves. Ask them to take a family photo at the back with the Waikiki skyline in the back. Once you get out to the sub- you will climb down a ladder into the sub. Once seated- the hatch is closed and you “dive”. Everything is explained as it happens and…what’s waiting at the bottom (60-100 feet) is remarkable. This company has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in building reefs! You spend approx 40-50 minutes down touring around the reefs, then the cool part—- the assent. You then board the ship that takes you back and this is the hard part- If you get sea sick- it will be here!!! They keep you in the bottom deck, no air on the rolling waves for 7-12 minutes. I started to get very nauseous! When they finally allowed us upstairs- I felt way better. Next time I will put a “patch” on. I use those prescription behind the ear patches that work wonders! Or I will ask to head up quicker to get air. I would do this trip again and again- it’s easy since we stay next door at the Hale Koa and it’s not that long.
