What To Expect

Atlantis Submarines Waikiki

The Atlantis submarine Hawaii adventure begins with a short (approximately 10 minutes) shuttle ride out to the submarine boarding site. Descending below, your time underwater on the Oahu submarine tour is around 45 minutes. Returning to the world above, your shuttle is waiting to return you to land. The Oahu submarine tour dive site is home to many Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. On this truly eye-opening experience, you'll visit sunken ships, airplanes and other artificial reefs. The submarine has a spacious air-conditioned interior, large view ports and comfortable seating. If you haven't taken a trip to the bottom of the ocean before, the Atlantis Submarine Oahu Adventure is a "must do" for the whole family during your visit to Hawaii. Check out the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine offers an enhanced amount of personal space and large viewports only available to Premium Tour passengers.

What a fun way to spend a morning in Waikiki! We booked ourselves into the Premium Adventure tour on Atlantis' 64-seat submarine. Having never been in a submarine before, I was really apprehensive about being 100 feet under water but I needn't have worried - I was too busy trying to spot marine life! A large catamaran takes you from the Hilton Pier out to the open sea where the 2 submarines are located (the ride out can be choppy so take your anti-emetics beforehand). Once there, we got to watch the submarine surface from the ocean before climbing aboard (please note: you need to be able to navigate a 7-step vertical ladder into and out of the submarine unassisted, and the steps can be slippery). Inside the vessel, there are 2 long benches with really large portholes to look through. After a short safety briefing, we set off on our 45 minute smooth underwater journey to visit 4 artificial reefs. These include old ships, old airplanes and synthetic structures that Atlantis have placed onto the ocean floor in order to attract coral and fish species. Our guide (Chris) kept us entertained throughout the tour with this hilarious commentary and helped us to spot other marine animals (we saw several sea turtles...and scuba divers). You're also provided with a Dive Log at the start of the tour, which includes an illustrated guide to the reef species and more information about the reefs themselves. It was a remarkable experience to visit a part of the ocean that only scuba divers and fish get to experience.

Absolutely loved this! Doesn't take too long like most excursions. I recommend going at 9:00AM when there are fewer people. We saw a shark and see turtles among other cool sealife. The ship workers were exceptionally nice, even offering to take pictures of us.
