Had perfect weather for a trip up the river to Secret Falls. 45-60 minutes of kayaking up river, with a nice tailwind. Beached the kayaks and hiked for 30-45 minutes. Easy hike, but it was dry. Lots of spots that would be tough on a wet trail. The falls are worth the trip, water feels great! Pack a good lunch and plenty of water. Duke's provides dry packs, and they are big enough for all your stuff. The kayak ride back is/was into the wind and took longer. Overall, a great afternoon. Trevor was our guide, plenty of history, knowledge and a great sense of humor. He usually does afternoon tours--I would recommend him! Wear hiking shoes that can get wet and muddy, or surf shoes comfortable enough for mild hiking.

What a great trip!

Paddling on the river was easy with barely any current. All the kayaks are two seat ride on tops, so you don't need to be a real experienced paddler.

The hike was moderate easy for experienced hikers - but definitely muddy and far from smooth and the scenery was gorgeous throughout. Our group size was 12 people, and the shuttle van was full so I assume that's the top limit which is nice - you don't want to go with a big crowd.

Our guide Jake was really friendly and helpful, all the while keeping a good eye on the whole group's safety. We stopped several times along the way for interesting explanations of what we were seeing, and at the end Jake was happy to point us to some great local places to eat!

All in all an awesome way to spend the afternoon on Kauai!

when you get there, your probably looking for an office of some sort but it is literally out of a garage (nothing more.. but don't let that fool you) i chose duke's kayak adventure as it was the cheapest compared to others (we paid $188 US for 4 of us including taxes/fees,etc.). probably because the others provide lunch whereas duke's they do not. your probably better off just packing a snack to save yourself some cost. our tour guide was a young kid name brian. he was an excellent guide as he kept talking throughout the whole tour explaining facts. at times it was hard to hear what brian was saying if you fall behind kayaking or hiking. you start by taking a 12 passenger van and he drives about 15 min. to the dock where you begin kayaking for about 45 min.(very moderate). then you begin your hike ( very mild as it was pretty much flat all the way) to make your way up to the falls. you can swim there as well as it w as only waist high or if your very adventurous you can even walk behind the falls as it comes splashing down from atop. after the falls, you hike back again and return to kayak back to the dock (it became somewhat difficult for me as it seemed like over an hour.. maybe because of the headwinds? and hot as well). be thing we did on the island and certainly worth the money. hard part was getting up at 5 am as we chose the 7 am tour (yeah, life is tough!). shop around for pricing as I get the feeling all the tours are the same (ie. same kayak, same hike to the falls) as other groups but that is my opinion. this was the cheapest as other quotes were over $200 - $220 US for the 4 of us.
