We Shall Overcome: A Williamsburg Black History Experience

Overview
Come on to our history of black Americans tour presented by Junket!

We often learn the history and stories of heroes of the American Revolution and the early history of America. What isn't often covered in history classes and history books is the story of African Americans who were enslaved during this time. On this unique tour, we'll discover the stories of African Americans who lived and worked in Colonial Williamsburg. From the slaves buried in the graveyard of the Historic First Baptist Church, to the woman who left property to her freed black servants, you'll uncover the untold stories of the oppressed, and their path to freedom.

This was a GREAT TOUR and we highly recommend it. It was about 1.5 hours. Vincent was a great tour guide and very passionate. He mentioned how this tour doesn't have nearly as much participation as the Ghost Tours but this is FACTUAL HISTORY. We agreed. In fact, when we took the tour, it was only the 5 members of my family that signed up. All of the information was great. It was amazing to have not heard of many of the historical black figures that he mentioned during the tour and their influence on Williamsburg and Richmond metro area. If you are in Williamsburg area, put this on your list of to do. It won't disappoint.

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to leave this great feedback for Vincent's tour. We can't wait to share this with him and the rest of our team. The information in this tour is extremely important, and we appreciate your recommendation to other visitors. We hope to see you again in the future--either here in Williamsburg, or perhaps on another one of our tours in the next city you visit.

Vince did an awesome job! He took my family along a detail journey of what it was like as a black enslaved person in the 1700s and so! We ended our journey at the first know black church! We got to ring what is known as the ā€œfreedomā€ bell! Definitely a spring break my kids and I will remember for years to come! The lady that gave us a tour of the church gave us more history into the black church and what it meant for the Williamsburg community! This is such a great experience for all! To did deeper into American Culture!
