I would not leave Whitefish without doing this tour of Glacier National Park. Especially if you are not traveling with a vehicle, you need transportation just to get to the park from Whitefish. But I also benefitted from the experience of the guide to pick the best spots to explore.
In late October 2020, there was already a fairly substantial snowfall, but the roads were still passable for the most part, which for me was perfect. Going-to-the-Sun road was still open (it closes at some point) and the views around there of Lake McDonald and surrounding mountains are not to be missed. Also visited Hungry Horse dam (which at the time felt like being in the scenes in the X-men live action movies), Polebridge, and various points along the roads.
In Polebridge, which is just a few miles from Canada, there is a general store which has some great pastries and souvenirs. Another major value added of this tour was they had snowshoes that I could use (my first time).
COVID-19 safety protocols were followed by the tour guide and in general indoor areas.
