5 of us (2 adults and 3 teenage children) went on this excursion the week before Easter. What a fantastic experience! This company employs professionals who have a passion for - and deep experience in - whitewater rafting. These are not high school kids doing this for the summer. There are very nice facilities to change clothes in, and a great t-shirt / souvenir shop on the property. We began with an orientation and a detailed talk on safety. The rules are few and simple, but important. If you listen to your guide, you will have no problems and will have an amazing experience. Make no mistake - you will be soaked! Mike Ryan was our guide and had years of experience white water rafting and knew the Pigeon River like the back of his hand. He was EXCELLENT - very informative and very patient as he instructed us through the multiple sets of rapids, some of which were quite challenging. But, while they were harrowing in spots, we never felt unsafe. It was a fantastic afternoon of teamwork, exercise, and nature's beauty. I would do this again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I visited with our 12 yr old daughter and 14 yr old son. The water was cold, so we were glad that we had rented the extra gear. We registered online which was very convenient and easy to use. Check in took a little time, but was run very efficiently. Our guide was great. He pointed out interesting things along the route, but didn't talk unnecessarily. The rapids were awesome - fast enough to be exciting, but not so fast to be terrifying. One of the highlights if our trip.

Barbara E., Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We are happy to hear that your family enjoyed rafting with Big Creek Expeditions and that it was the highlight of your trip. We strive to show our guests the best adventure in the Smoky Mountains and are lucky to have a staff that truly loves what they do. My apologies on the wait for your check-in process. We try to be as efficient as possible. That being said, Amanda and Toni are new to the office team this season so you may have caught some of their pre-season jitters while they're still learning the ropes. Also happy to hear you rented wetsuits! The water in the mountains during the Spring is cold, but warms up during summer months. Hope to have you and your family back again! Thanks!

We did the 12:30pm tour, started with instructions, which were an outstanding display of knowledge, enthusiasium, and love for the sport. Our guide was Opal, she was born and raised in Gatlinburg, TN so we got first hand information about the area. As far as the actual white water rafting, it was phenomenal. We had the best time ever. My husband and I were right up front, so we got very wet but it was a hot day and getting soaked was much appreciated. We did class II's and III's with a hint of a class IV but whatever they were rated, it was a blast. Highly recommend this place, just a note that they are located basically on the TN/NC border so allow yourself time to and from; it will be a guaranteed fun time!
