We have never white water rafted before and originally planned to try the lower river section as a first attempt. When we called Big Creek Expeditions, the person who answered the phone convinced us to to try the Upper River expedition, explaining that although the rapids were class 3 and 4, no experience was needed for the trip. Reluctantly, we agreed to try the upper river although we were a bit nervous. We needn't have been. The upper river was so much fun! I am sure we would have been bored on the lower river and Clay, our guide, was outstanding. His instructions were so clear and he knew just how to put everyone in the group on our raft at ease, in spite of the diverse group he was guiding. If you go on this trip, ask for Clay! And yes,, you are going to get WET!

Big Creek was a good experience and it was a well run, well led, and well orchestrated outing. Even with the dam water released the Pigeon River is really kind of ordinary when compared to other WW rafting trips we have had. The upper Ocoee had many better drops, e.g.

This was our first white water rafting trip and it was a blast. The Big Creek Expeditions staff is friendly, super organized, and made us feel totally safe. I was very impressed with their customer service. The day before our trip I called to ask a question and before they could answer I had to hang-up. They looked at their caller ID and called me right back! Many businesses would have ignored the call. Kudos to them! The safety talk before we headed to the river was very informative. Our guide (Jen) was very friendly and knew what she was doing on the water. She had four years of rafting guide experience. We enjoyed her stories as we rafted down the river. We all had a great time! We purchased vouchers through a website called Halfoffdepot.com. With this deal we each received a CD with pictures of our trip on it. This worked out great since our kids each brought a friend, and they were able to take a CD home to share with their parents. The pictures BCE took were very good and we enjoy looking at them.
