We had a great day visiting the Whitney Plantation and doing the Swamp Tpur through Ragin' Cajun. Brian was a tour guide and did a great job driving us safely through a heavy thunderstorm. There was heavy rain at the plantation but it was still a very powerful experience. Dylan was our airboat caption. We had a very close encounter with Scarface. It was a fabulous experience.

Tour was fantastic--highly recommend! Husband and I were picked up around 8:20 in a big grey van by Brian, who was an absolute riot. He told stories, jokes and shared information about New Orleans's unique history and infrastructure as he drove us to the plantation. We learned about the new and improved levees and some interesting sights along the way. We had about two hours at Whitney to take the audio tour and explore the grounds. The plantation is focused on the lives of those who were enslaved, and it is very well done. Brian picked us up and pointed out filming locations on our way to Oak Alley, where we stopped for a quick half hour lunch and a peek at the famous house. He then dropped us off at Ragin' Cajun Swamp Tours, where we and other tour groups were assigned to different airboats. Despite the cold, our guide found quite a few alligators. As an experienced alligator hunter himself, he told us all about alligator behavior, the hunting lottery, the names and stories behind specific alligators we saw, why he doesn't feed them when it's cold out, the history of Spanish moss (more interesting than you might think!) and answered the many questions posed by our group. The boat ride was fast and smooth--lots of fun! From there, Brian picked us back up and continued sharing his knowledge and love of New Orleans, its culture and inhabitants, all the way back to our hotel dropoff. It was a great way to spend a day!

The self-guided tour audio did a nice job providing information and history. While the interviews were a great addition, many were too hard to hear or understand, unfortunately.
