Wildlife explorer tours are really a rip off. Expensive & not much to talk about. Although Capt Mark speaks of his grandfatherā€™s accomplishments, they are not reflected in the boat which is pretty run down. Did not see ponies, saw a bald eagle and dolphins. I really would not recommend it. Oh but he does advertise his photographs for sale.

Booked the Sunset Cruise. There were only 7 on board, so much to our delight we took out their small boat. This allowed us to get right up close to the ponies. The brothers were born an raised on Chincoteague and their family has been on the island for multiple generations. Therefore, they know right where to find the horses. They allow ample time with the horses so everyone can get great pictures. This tour was as close as you can get without having to paddle over in a kayak. On the way back we saw a stingray which swam right past the boat. The dolphins werenā€™t around, but that was okay because we were treated to a stunningly gorgeous sunset.
