Wilderness Exploration & Crab Feast

Overview
This excursion will bring you right to the heart of Southeast Alaska. Feel the pioneer spirit of those who live and work on her coastal waters and experience “a day in the life” of a local Alaskan. If you want to be hands on, make sure to volunteer to pull up crab pots from the abundant waters surrounding Revillagigedo Island, overflowing with delicious Dungeness Crab. Breathe in the fresh air and spectacular scenery as your crew shares stories and the history of this magnificent waterway. No Alaskan crabbing excursion would be complete without a feast of fresh Dungeness Crab! Baby red potatoes, fresh oriental salad, and a scrumptious cheesecake with blueberry topping dessert will round out this hearty meal. Your hosts will lead you through a panorama of local tall tales then demonstrate the easiest way to crack your crabs! The remote location will only add to your dining pleasure at the rustic, yet elegant, George Inlet Lodge.

The tour which cost $179.95 was advertised as all the crabs you could eat. We were served only two pieces. When we asked for more, we were denied. The excursion was a ripoff.

Had a great time on our Wilderness Exploration and Crab Feast. Went out with our captain and tour guide and saw an old Salmon canning factory on our way to an area to pull crab pot. I was able to assist in the pulling of the pot and it was so much fun! Tour guide explained the difference between males and females and how they live in this area. On our way back we saw two bald eagles that flew right up to our boat… beautiful! The crab lunch was amazing. They taught us how to break them open and fed us all the crab we wanted. Highly suggest this tour if you are visiting Ketchikan.

The wilderness exploration portion of the excursion is a visit to pre-baited crab trap pots. We saw eagle nests, but they were pretty prevalent throughout Alaska. Other than that the “wilderness” was a bust. I gave a 3 star review because of the crab feast … it did not disappoint. The crab was served piping hot, was plentiful and delicious. The $199 price per person, however, is steep. The 79 steps down to the dock/restaurant and 79 steps back up to the parking lot are not handicapped accessible. I would not recommend this excursion unless you don’t mind paying $199 for a small salad, crab, a piece of cheesecake and a beverage.
