Willamette Valley
The Willamette Valley wine region, once known for its fruit orchards and nurseries, has become one of the United States' premier producers of cool-climate varietals like pinot noir. Start your wine country tour with hotel pickup from downtown Portland, and make your way by Mercedes Sprinter Van to three wineries carefully chosen by us. Portland is the perfect hub for exploring quiet backcountry roads through Oregon’s wine country, with more than half of the state’s 500 or so wineries located about 45 minutes away in the nearby Willamette Valley taking in beautiful vistas of gently rolling hills that give way to the expansive valley with views the Cascade Mountains. At each winery, taste a select group of varietals that will please even the most discerning palate, from reds like Pinot Noir Cabernet Franc to award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rose, Riesling & more. ITINERARY Wineries visited in this region may vary based on day of the week and winery availability.

My husband and I had a limited time to experience Portland and wanted to make the most of our time. I found this tour online and because we love the Pinot Noir wines from this region we thought this would be perfect. We have never done an organized tour so we have nothing to compare this to but we enjoyed ourselves from the time of pick up at our downtown hotel at noon to the drop off early in the evening. The tour included stops at three vineyards with an organized wine tasting and opportunity to explore the grounds. It was an absolutely gorgeous sunny day. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of not only the vineyards we were visiting but gave us commentary on the areas we passed while travelling from one place to the next. We purchased wine from two of the three vineyards that they arranged to ship back home for us. The last vineyard had not only the wine tasting but a small spread of snacks made up of cheese, meats and crackers. There were 8 people total plus our tour guide on this tour. It was a nice mix with two sisters with their mother from New Mexico who were a hoot, a Japanese tourist also a hoot, and a young married couplethey kind of kept to themselves...ahhh new young love. On the ride back to the hotels the ladies opened up some of the wine they purchased and shared it with everyone which made for a very interesting trip: One piece of advice is to either bring your own snacks and water because it is a long day of drinking wine. Eat a meal before you get picked up too. All in all we had a great experience and we are now booked on another Viator tour this month to see the Grand Canyon in a grand way.
