The 5 star rating is absolutely well deserved. Communication prior to the trip was excellent with suggestions and well detailed instructions on meeting and timing. When we arrived at the Excursion Hub, Teresa was ready for us and took the group to the dock a few minutes away. We boarded the boat, newly built in 2021, exceptionally clean, captained by one of her sons. We headed out promptly as their other boat was watching a pod of killer whales and our captain was hopeful we could see them as well. We arrived at that location where the other Glacier Wind boat was watching a group of adults and one little killer whale cruising around kelp beds. We were able to watch them for 15-20 minutes before we moved on to find humpback whales. It was obvious that Glacier Wind did an excellent job of communicating with other boats to identify locations of whales and we were able to observe several humpbacks for the remainder of the trip. I will point out that the Glacier Wind boat was absolutely perfect for viewing. There were about 14 comfortable padded seats inside with generous viewing windows (and hot chocolate). More important than that, the entire outdoor deck area was available for walking around and viewing. If you've been on boats where you can't see since there are 80-200 people crowded on the front and back decks, you know what that's like. This is 100% amazing boat space to see Alaskan wildlife. We watched guests on the cruise ship pack onto large boats with limited viewing areas, no way everyone could see. I realize seeing killer whales doesn't happen every trip, we were very fortunate. Our captain and first mate were great about answering questions regarding the wildlife, life in Icy Straits, etc. Supporting a family business that does such an amazing job is an easy decision. If you are thinking about booking with the cruise ship, please decide how important it is for you to actually view without elbowing other guests out of the way on a large boat.
