Overview

The experience of watching 40 foot (12 meter) whales from a 24 foot (7 meter) Zodiac raft is something you'll never forget! Following Hawaiian Marine Park laws of stopping at least 100 yards (90 meters) away from these magnificent animals, you get a close up look at the migrating humpback whales. It is not uncommon for them to be curious about the raft and come right under the boat!

We always go out on the Zodiac whalewatch tour with Captain Zodiac, and we are never disappointed. Very first tour a few whales swam so close to the boat we could have touched one. Then it swam under the boat! Another time we watched a mother, baby, and companion/guardian. Latest tour (our 8th in as many years) we got to follow 4 males on a “heat run” for a good while as they slapped their sectoral fins, dove, and breached repeatedly. Book it, don’t hesitate. February is ideal, but January-March all good.

February has been MAGICAL!! We are obsessed all over again and can't believe it comes to an end this month. We are just so sad that they are going to leave but with all the new babies next year is going to be EPIC also. We love how these whales are still recovering in numbers and can see the positive side of federal restrictions that are helping these whales thrive. Thank you for coming out with us so many times and we hope to keep seeing you.

Had a really nice time. Saw numerous whales, including one that swam under the zodiac and another that breached right in front of us. Overall, great whale watching. Probably the only thing that surprised me was no life vests. My wife is not a good swimmer and was a bit concerned. But it was also our fault for not asking for one.

Always ask, we never know peoples experience level when boarding the boat and on a whale watch we don't usually ask as we don't get in the water. We are always prepared to give out any type of floatation that might have made her feel more comfortable.
