I was able to go everywhere I wanted to go and then some. I rented the car for 8 hours and went all over town, literally. I burned $0.79 (cents) in gas and used $2.00 in parking fees. The open design of the car allowed my son and I to view everything. That is hard to do in a conventional car. We were also able to go places tour buses were not allowed. The verbal tour was very helpful also, we learned a lot about San Francisco.
The GO CAR adventure was great... the hassle at the pick up site was a pain. Luckily we showed up 30 minutes early as it took 40 minutes to get ready to go. I was a little frustrated that when we booked through Viator and then get to the pick-up location and there were additional charges we had to pay. The 3 hour tour (and we didn't stop except for a few photo shoots) had to be cut way short to return on time. We were afraid of what they would charge if we were late. Next time, I'd not follow the GPS tour for the waterfront and Golden Gate Bridge.... too crowded and way easier to explore waterfront and bridge on foot. We basically got about half way through Golden Gate park and then had to jet back to drop-off site in order to avoid additional charges. Felt bad that I had booked for our group (3 couples) and then they had to pay additional fees that were not revealed when I booked through Viator. I had planned to book other excursions through Viator, but decided to just do them through the various companies as I didn't save any $$$ going through Viator.... just created more of a hassle. The GO CARS get 4 stars, Viator 0 stars.
My fiance and I had a tour through the Fisherman's Wharf East facility in June 2013 and received the worst customer service from the staff. The tour was fun but the staff made it a less than enjoyable experience. Know that if you book through Viator that you're booking for the smaller/less horsepower car and that if you are a taller individual that you'll need the bigger car.
