This is 5 stars for the following 10 reasons 1) 3 kids and 2 adults who had never kayaked with 7 who had in a group of 12. The newbies were completely competent but Phil made sure they had the instruction, that they felt good, and he reminded us that a slow trip on the river just means more beauty and more time on the cool water. 2) Phil pointed out he wasn't in a rush because his company only runs only one per day. THANK YOU OUTFITTERS KAUAI so he was not stressed to get us anywhere at any pace. I read other reviews before I booked about guides not giving enough time at the falls because the group kayaked or hiked too slow. 3) Our hike pace was great and we "embraced the mud". We went after a couple of rainy days and it was (what Phil called) a 3 of 5 in terms of "mud intensity" 5 being the highest. We came prepared with old sneakers to just get muddy and it was fantastic. The kids did it in their water shoes with no problem. The water crossings were fun and a new experience for the kids. 4) Other reviews are correct -- there are a lot of people around but honestly nothing is really secret anymore so we were ready for it. 5) the lunch wraps were truly delicious... seriously. Thanks so much. 6) the kayak back after the hike is a bit tougher than the way up (wind is a factor) but again, Phil was talkative, entertaining, happy, and made those that were slow feel like it was all good no matter what. We took it at a fairly slow pace but geez it was beautiful and he made us feel so at ease. 7) Phil knows a TON and his stories and information on the kayak and the hike made the whole thing so much more fun! 8) Per other reviews, this is something you can definitely do on your own and if I ever return, I will... BUT having Phil and this company show me the right way was perfect. 9) Office staff were helpful and kind when I called. Booking was easy. 10) Truly do-able for all ages.

Aloha 151stephf,
Thank you for the Excellent review. Phil is an Amazing guide. I love your 10 reasons. There's really not much more for me to ad. One note: Trip Advisor calls this the Hidden Valley Falls Kayak. The tour you were on and described so well is the Wailua River Paddle to Secret Falls. They are different rivers at different locations. I just want the readers to make sure they know the difference. Mahalo for sharing your great experience and mentioning Phil. I always recommend going with a guide. You get so much more out of the day. Hope to see you again.
