Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Lors de notre excursion d'observation des baleines, vous serez dans le détroit d'Icy (étendue d'eau). This was our third whale-watching trip in Alaska, the other two coming during a cruise 10 years ago. We saw more, and experienced more, in this tour than in the other two combined. The small boat (6 passenger) experience is DEFINITELY the way to go here - there's something intimate and special about doing it this way. We were very comfortable on board and it got the point where we stopped taking pictures - and just experienced the whales without snapping our cameras. Highly recommended!

Jordan, owner and boat captain welcomed us aboard and promised he would do his best to make a memorable experience. He did not disappoint. He too is to see a pos of humpback whales of which we watched from a distance. True beauty to watch them bubble feed. I got many photos of flukes. But to our total astonishment they popped up in front of our boat while we were awaiting for them to resurface in the distance. Magnificent creatures! This was an outstanding experience- from the moment Moriah picked us up until we returned to our ship. Wonderful family owned business with personal touches.

We are so glad to have booked local for this experience...as we watched all the big whale boats chasing the same few humpback spouts, Captain Jordan spotted Orca fins and got us in place to spend time observing two large Orca bulls at easy viewing range. Later in our tour, he managed to position us where we were right next to a humpback “bubble feed”...so many of them breaching at once it was awe inspiring! As my kids said, this was “whale seeing” not “whale watching”...thanks to this awesome family company for a great experience!
