Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Lors de notre excursion d'observation des baleines, vous serez dans le détroit d'Icy (étendue d'eau). Vous pourrez voir des baleines à bosse (garanti !), Des otaries, des loutres de mer et des pygargues à tête blanche. What an amazing few hours we had on the Hoonah whale watch. Booking through this family run tour company was easy and pleasant, as was pick up from the cruise ship. With only 5 of us on the boat (and Captain Jordan), we became fast friends and shared the most amazing experience...we saw an orca pod (with 2 curious juveniles) and watched a dozen humpback whales bubble feeding (numerous times)!! The blueberry muffins were pretty darn good too! I highly recommend this tour when going to Icy Straits!!

Glad I found this tour which is very personal and allows up to 6 people on the boat. For our tour, it was just my family of 3 (myself, wife and daughter age 9). We had some high hopes for some great whale sights based on the results from the early morning sailing that same day. Within 5 min we were watching a single humpback breeching for food and blowing water. The whale disappeared and we took about a 30 min ride to find more whales. We found a bunch and followed them. Got some great tail whipping shots. Nothing else too exciting. Our daughter enjoyed the hot chocolate and homemade blueberry muffins. We chatted with Captain Joardan about the wild life we had including bald eagles, otters but that we hadn’t seen Bears!!! Lucky us, toward the end of the cruise Joardan received a call about 3 bears on a near by shore. We truly appreciated the extra time to track down and view the bears. We spent an extra 30 minutes looking at the bears. While the Whales were cool, watching the bears brought the experience over the top. Overall I highly recommend Hoonah Whale Tours.

Had a wonderful day with Hoonah whale watching from beginning to end and for the first time we saw bubble net feeding and not just once! I know nature dose not perform on clue so went with low expectations and boy was I excited to see so much activity. Being in Alaska all the whale watching tours guaranteed you will see whales, you can even spot them from your cruise ship and sometimes from shore. To be able to be on a small boat and follow the whales was amazing. We were on the boat and Jordan said do you hear them?(which I did) then there were bubbles on the water and they popped up right nex to our boat, crazy...I could go on and on. Anyway book with Hoonah Whale watching you’ll be glad you did. You may not see bubble net feeding but there’s a first time for everything.
