Kualoa Ranch - Visite d'Aloha 'Aina

Aperçu
Our Kualoa Grown Tour allows guests to see the beauty and tranquility of one of Oahu’s most well-preserved ancient Hawaiian fishponds (Moli’i), which is carbon-dated at between 800 and 1,000 years old. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, you’ll get to learn about early Hawaiian aquaculture practices and how fish was farmed in this 153-acre actively farmed fishpond, still standing with much of the original stonewall infrastructure in place.

Guests will travel on a Trolley to explore the tropical fruit and flower gardens of Moli’i. Admire the accomplishments of the early Hawaiians as the rich stories of the voyaging canoe and ancient fishpond unfold.

Excellent guide. She's very friendly and approachable. Learned lots about Hawaiian farming, but was disappointed that this tour did not take us out on the fish pond in the pond boat. Was nice to get a taste of Hawaii, but the ranch skimped on samples. I googled...and the ranch makes $$$$$ off these tours and they gave us one tiny piece of pineapple, one time piece of beef jerky, and two macadamia nuts. Really?

Did this tour as part of the "best of Kualoa" package. I have an interest in gardening and farming, so I found this tour particularly enjoyable and took all sorts of pictures. Definitely worth doing if you have an interest in these things. The 800 year old fishpond is both fascinating in its history and beautiful with it's surroundings. The tasting samples were fun and a great way to connect the group with the land. Our tour guide was warm and friendly, and tried to engage the group as best she could. She pointed out lots of different things along the way and had the bus stop so we could watch the fisherman cast their nets at the shrimp/prawn ponds. Don't go into the tour hungry expecting to come out full-the samples really are only meant to be samples and will only make you hungrier for more! The tour is mostly via bus but you do stop and walk around a couple of times. There are restrooms available. There are also some movie props along the way from a few movies "Snatched" "50 first dates" but I was more interested in the farming aspects of the tour so I didn't pay too close attention to those. I see this tour as something adults would appreciate more than children (unless your child is an aspiring botanist). Our bus had a Japanese narration available as well. My only suggestion is to add even more variety in the tasting samples!
