This is a small group rafting and scenic driving tour through the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve with a scenic float trip (no whitewater) through the home of the largest bald eagle congregation in the world. Thousands of bald eagles travel here to feed on salmon in the fall and winter. In spring and summer watch for eagles nesting and raising their young.

Very informative and fun seeing wildlife while floating on the river. We also saw some mountain goats on our shuttle back! Anna and Rich were excellent and very kind.

Ally was a great guide and we appreciated getting to know her and growing up in Haines, as well has her knowledge of the river, wildlife, and area. It is great to get a guide who is excited to be out in nature and seeing the beauty and wildlife. Lucky to see a trumpeter swan in the distance. Saw many eagle nests but with no salmon run, the preserve was a bit of a let down. Ally was an expert of getting us through the river! The men who helped us into and out of the rafts were kind and helpful! We enjoyed our adventure.

Thanks for this kind review of your tour with Aly. She has so much insider knowledge that she loves to share. Aly grew up in Haines and has taken the time to research her home in depth. The bald eagle preserve float trip is a chance to get away from the road and into the wilderness. The number of eagles seen on any individual tour depends on a number of factors. Some of our guests arrive expecting to see thousands of bald eagles in the Preserve. This is possible- but only in November when a late run of chum salmon attracts bald eagles from all over the surrounding area. During the summer months, the eagles are attending to their young on the nest and actively chase other eagles away from their territories. Fortunately, our float trip passes through an area rich in salmon, which all five species of salmon traveling in the Chilkat River. This area is able to support numerous bald eagles and their nests and this is what you experienced on the tour. We invite you to return to Haines during the second week of November when dozens of eagles perch in the snow-covered trees. This was a beautiful and amazing trip thanks to our guides, Aly and Lindsey. Aly handled the raft adeptly through the many obstacles in the flowing river and was still able to spot eagles and other birds for us to enjoy. She was very knowledgeable on the area, wildlife and trees and plant as well as being a pleasure to be with. Lindsey, our driver, stopped at a few attractions in town and shared local history about the area. She also stopped on the roadside so we could see and photograph 2 nesting trumpeter swans. Thanks to both of them (and the gorgeous day), it was a memorable trip. Also, thanks to Joe for arranging to pick us up at the Haines airport and drop us off at the ferry terminal that made the whole trip easy.

Aly and Lindsey make a great team with Aly rowing the raft and Lindsey driving to and from the river. The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve is a wonderful place to visit and I'm so glad we are able to accommodate you by picking you up at the airport and dropping you off at the ferry terminal. Not all our visitors come from cruise ships and we always try to accommodate.
