This is a small group rafting and scenic driving tour through the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve with a scenic float trip (no whitewater) through the home of the largest bald eagle congregation in the world. Thousands of bald eagles travel here to feed on salmon in the fall and winter. In spring and summer watch for eagles nesting and raising their young.

Joe, our raft guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area. We saw eagles even though the salmon were not running.

Thanks for your kind review. The eagles this time of year are near their nest looking for food for their young. The salmon runs are just beginning to start. As the salmon runs grow stronger, we will see more eagles. Also, around the beginning of August we will start to see more bear on our Chilkoot Lake Nature and Wildlife Tour. Perhaps you can join us on that tour during your next visit.

This is a fabulous excursion. Was way more than we expected. The small group set up makes this a very personal experience between you and your guide. The amount of knowledge on the history of the river, flora, fauna and culture was outstanding. We didn’t want our excursion to end. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. Scott and Chris

Scott and Chris, it was a great trip and I appreciate your comments. I was able to personally guide this tour and I really enjoy being out on the river. And it is even more enjoyable for me when there are guest like you who have a sincere desire to learn about the area. I alos want to thank you for purchasing my book, Where Eagles Gather, the Story of the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. I hope this book brings back great memories of our rafting trip and perhaps inspires you to return to Haines for the Eagle Congregation in November.

This tour was so much fun! I wasn't too excited about the hike but it wasn't bad at all it was super fun and our amazing tour guide Noah Stewart kept our whole group involved. He was personable, funny and had a great personality. Definitely would do this tour again! Floating down the river we had tons of fun and he would point out wildlife for us to see. He knew the answers for any questions we had.
